melody datz-hansen, MA, Certified doula, breastfeeding specialist
I learned at a young age that the life-altering changes that come with the arrival of every new baby are unique to each family. I approach lactation and baby-feeding work as an opportunity not only to teach and support families in their feeding journeys, but to help empower parents to follow their instincts.
My lactation work is informed by child-centered philosophies, a former profession in public health research, and experiences living in a variety of cultures around the U.S and Japan, Germany, and Poland. I am currently pursuing clinical certification in lactation work which also includes support in exclusive bottle and formula feeding.
I live in Seattle with my partner and my kiddo, where I enjoy growing tomatoes but not eating them, reading fiction, and moonlighting as a dance critic for local newspapers.

My goal as a Lactation Consultant is to hold families in a caring, attuned space during a time that can be full of both joy and difficulty, so gratifying and yet also isolating. I am a forever student – seeking to further my understanding, education, and deepen my skills so that I can better serve those who are seeking care to feed their babies. I live locally with my husband and two children, and 8 ducks. I enjoy gardening, the beauty of the PNW, and going to outdoor concerts. My family is thrilled that I am finally done going to school so don't tell them I plan to study craniosacral therapy next!
With a background in music and a deep curiosity about the “unseen,” my path into infant care began when my own children were babies. I started as a birth doula and lactation support volunteer, later becoming an IBCLC and providing in-home lactation care in my community.
In 2016, while working at Seattle Breastfeeding Medicine, I witnessed the profound impact of bodywork on both babies and adults. Inspired, I became a licensed massage therapist and later certified in Craniosacral Therapy through Bastyr University. My work now integrates lactation support, body-based care, and a deep respect for the sensitivity of babies and families.
In my free time you’ll find me ice skating, making music, doing puzzles, scootering around, or hanging with my kids.
